BACHELOR’S DEGREE (B. Sc) PROGRAMME
IN TAXATION.
JUSTIFICATION FOR THE PROGRAMME
There is a general lukewarm attitude by taxpayers toward tax compliance in Nigeria. Adequate tax education and manpower to promote tax practice and administration are also lacking. Education of taxpayers and other stakeholders in tax matters especially with the introduction of self assessment tax regime is necessary because it will assist them to know about tax laws. Furthermore, it will provide them an opportunity to become aware of the benefits and services the states provide to its citizens from tax revenue. Moreover, one of the reasons for the endowment of a professorial chair of taxation by Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in the Department of Accounting, University of Benin, was for the Department to run a Bachelor Degree and Post Graduate Programmes in Taxation in order to provide the needed skilled and professional manpower in Taxation.
